Bucko’s Romps Twice – Thursday Sports Wrap

MLB – Tigers
The Pittsburgh Pirates pounded out 21 hits, and ripped the Detroit Tigers 9-3 last night. Alfredo Simon gave up 15 of those hits, and six runs, before leaving in the sixth inning. Pittsburgh’s final runs came in the eighth, when Joba Chamberlain gave up three solo homers.

The Tigers are now just one game over .500, and trail the Royals by six games in the American League Central.

The Tigers wrap up that home set against the Pirates this afternoon. Kyle Ryan will pitch against Francisco Liriano. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Adam Lind homered, as the Milwaukee Brewers blasted the Philadelphia Phillies 9-5 last night. Scooter Gennett, Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez each contributed two-run doubles as part of a 17-hit attack. Kyle Lohse pitched into the seventh, and was charged with four runs. He also had three hits, and scored twice.

The Brewers conclude that series against the Phillies tonight. Matt Garza will start against Chad Billingsley.

– Bucko’s/Labatt’s then scored eight runs in the first inning, and cruised past McGann’s/Northern Auto 21-6. Aron Butkovich had three hits, and scored three runs.
– Erickson Crowley Peterson got past Matt’s Auto Glass 16-12. Josh Turunen had four hits.
– Erickson Crowley Peterson then scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to edge Marley Bar 17-16. Erik Nettle, Matt Tchida, and Josh Turunen each had four hits.

– At the Chassell field, the result of the game between Pat’s Foods and Northern Michigan Land Brokers was not reported. The game between Auto Pro Glass and Tire and Mattila Rock and Dock was called after eight innings with the score tied at eight. Auto Pro had taken an early lead in that contest, but Mattila tied it with a four run sixth inning.
– At Lake Linden, North Star BP blasted Family Chiropractic 18-4. Laura Ruohonen was the winning pitcher.

Red Wings Sign Two Free Agents
The Detroit Red Wings wasted no time in adding a couple of free agents to their roster. On the first day of the signing period yesterday, they brought in defenseman Mike Green and center Brad Richards. Green has spent his entire 10-year career with the Washington Capitals. His is a three-year deal worth six-million dollars a season. Richards played with the Blackhawks last season. He signed a one-year deal worth three-million dollars, with potential for another one-million in playoff bonuses.

Liberty Run Saturday
The annual Lumberjack Days 5k Liberty Run/Walk will be held Saturday morning in Baraga. Advance registration has closed, but you can sign up beginning at 7:30 Saturday at the Baraga American Legion Post. Walkers will begin at 8:30, with runners starting a bit later. There will also be a one-mile youth fun run. Money raised benefits the KBIC Youth Club. For details, click here.
