Finlandia
Joe Burcar is returning to coach men’s hockey at Finlandia University. Burcar led the Lions to their most successful seasons, including a Harris Cup Championship with the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association in 2007. He was fired early in the 2009 season, after more than eight years as coach. At the time, former Athletic Director Chris Salani cited “operational policies” as the reason. Burcar has been coaching in California since 2010, including working with Anaheim Junior Ducks and Edison High School. In 2015, he led the Ducks to a state championship, and a spot in the national semifinals. He has also been working with several high-level amateur leagues as a scout. In announcing his re-hiring, Athletic Director Kristan Schuster said she had spoken with many of Burcar’s former players, who endorsed the decision. Burcar replaces Dane Littke, who resigned for personal reasons earlier this summer.
