MLB

The Detroit Tigers spotted the Boston Red Sox an early two-run lead, then roared back to claim a 4-2 victory last night. Miguel Cabrera had two hits, including his 498th career home run. Starter Wily Peralta left with two runners on and two out in the fifth inning. Kyle Funkhauser ended the threat, striking out the only batter he faced, and earning the win. Joe Jiménez, Michael Fulmer, José Cisnero and Gregory Soto each turned in a shutout inning.

The Tigers continue that set against the Red Sox tonight. Casey Mize will start against Eduardo Rodriguez. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Isaac Parades’ potential return to the Tigers has been delayed. Parades reported more problems with his sore hip in a rehab appearance with the Toledo Mud Hens, and has been returned to Detroit’s training facility in Florida for more treatment.

The Milwaukee Brewers couldn’t hold an early lead, and fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 in 10 innings last night. With help from a Willy Adames home run, the Crew compiled a 4-0 advantage by the end of the fifth inning. Pittsburgh broke through with five runs in the seventh. Three were charged to former Tiger Daniel Norris, who faced three batters and gave up a single, a double and a walk. Milwaukee tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Former Tiger Blaine Hardy took the loss, retiring the first two hitters in the top of the 10th, before giving up three runs.

The Brewers host the Pirates again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Steven Brault.

Milwaukee put reliever John Axford on the injured list yesterday, after an elbow problem derailed his comeback Monday night. It’s still not known how serious the injury is. Angel Perdomo was brought up from Nashville.

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new member. Wandile Ngwenya is from Durban, South Africa. He’s transferring in from Kansas City Community College.
