Calumet Comeback Stuns Esky – Friday Sports Wrap

Calumet Copper Kings LogoIn high school hockey last night, Calumet scored three goals in the final two-and-a-half minutes, and came from behind to beat Escanaba 4-2. Brent Loukas buried a rebound to tie the game. Ryan Nelson scored the go-ahead goal with 46 seconds remaining, and Robert Erkkila sealed the win with an empty-netter. Ian Carroll made 25 saves to get the win.

Lake Linden Hubbell Logo– Calumet got past Hancock 46-38.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell rolled over Baraga 83-60. Lucas Klein had a double double with 36 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakes.
– Jeffers edged Ontonagon 45-44.
– Ewen-Trout Creek thumped Chassell 81-45. Logan Maki led Ewen with 23 points.

On tonight’s boys schedule…
– L’Anse hosts Wakefield.
– Ewen-Trout Creek entertains Republic-Michigamme.
– Chassell welcomes Stephenson.

On the girls schedule tonight…
– Houghton travels to West Iron County.

Tomorrow, Hancock faces Elcho High School in a game that will be played at Phelps High School in Wisconsin.

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams defeated Hillsdale College last night.  The women bolted out to a quick 25-7 lead, and cruised to an 83-53 victory. Kylie Moxlie scored 18 points and Danielle Blake added 16. The men built a 14-point halftime lead, and held on for a 74-69 triumph. Kyle Monroe scored a career-best 27 points.

Both Tech teams entertain Saginaw Valley State tomorrow. The women’s game begins at 1:00, and the men’s game at 3:00.

The Tech hockey team has this weekend off.

NMU
Both Northern Michigan University hoops teams lost to Saginaw Valley State… the women 70-54, and the men 83-79. Both NMU teams host Hillsdale tomorrow.

The Wildcats hockey team is off this weekend.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University basketball teams play at the University of Northwestern tonight, and North Central University tomorrow afternoon.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team skates at Adrian College tonight and tomorrow night. The men’s team hosts the Milwaukee School of Engineering tomorrow night at 7:30 and Sunday afternoon at 4:00 at the Houghton County Arena.

GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers host the Marquette Iron Rangers tomorrow night at 7:30 at Dee Stadium. The Calumet Wolverines skate at Monroe tonight, and Mosinee tomorrow night.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Buffalo tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Detroit Pistons lost to the New Orleans Pelicans 115-99 last night. Andre Drummond had 19 points and 22 rebounds for Detroit. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 23, and Brandon Jennings added 20. The Pistons face the Nuggets in Denver tomorrow night. Tip-off is at 9:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NFL
The NFL Conference Championship games will be played Sunday. New England plays at Denver at 3:05, and Arizona kicks off at Carolina at 6:40. Hear both games on AM 140 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
