Carney-Nadeau stunned Ewen-Trout Creek 51-45. The Wolves opened up a big early lead, and held on for the win. Jake Witt scored 27 points and grabbed 23 rebounds in his final high school game. Michigan Tech hockey players Jake Jackson and Patrick Munson have been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Jackson was named co-offensive Player of the Week, after scoring both goals in Tech’s 2-1 overtime win over Minnesota State Sunday night. Munson was named Goaltender of the Week for stopping 41 shots in that game. The Huskies will face Northern Michigan University Saturday evening at 7:07 in Marquette in the WCHA title game. The contest will be televised by Fox Sports U-P.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost their seventh straight game last night, 5-3 to the San Jose Sharks. Trevor Daley, Gustav Nyquist and Henrik Zetterberg scored for Detroit. Jimmy Howard took the loss in net. The Wings will visit the Los Angeles Kings Thursday. Pregame coverage begins at 9:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons return to action tonight, when they visit the Utah Jazz. Pregame coverage will begin at 8:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
In spring training baseball, the Detroit Tigers lost 5-4 to the Washington Nationals yesterday. Starter Matthew Boyd  pitched three shutout innings. Prospect Mike Gerber hit a home run. The Tigers face the New York Yankees this afternoon. Listen for Tigers regular-season games and select preseason contests on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 yesterday. Starter Junior Guerra gave up three runs in the first inning, then settled down, and pitched into the fifth. The Brewers take on the Texas Rangers this afternoon.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said yesterday that Chase Anderson will be the team’s opening-day starter.

NFL
Numerous media reports say that former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is about to be released by the Miami Dolphins. Suh left Detroit three years ago for a whopping six-year, 114-million dollar deal in Miami. He’s played effectively, but, at age 31, has become a salary-cap victim.

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum has agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos. Keenum led Minnesota to the NFC championship game last season, while making 14 starts for injured starter Sam Bradford. The Vikings are targeting free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins, but so are the Jets and the Cardinals. Free agent contracts can’t be signed until tomorrow.

Team Copper Country begins play in the state tournament Friday night against the Kensington Valley Rebels at Marquette. Hear all of Team CC’s games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
