Calumet Hockey Cruises Past Esky – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school hockey last night, Calumet outskated Escanaba 5-2. Scott Loukus scored the first and last goals of the game. Tanner Rowe, Cam Kauppinen, and Gabe Coppo also found the net. Dean Loukus had four assists.

In girls basketball last night…
– Calumet shut down Houghton 70-46. Elli Djerf led the Copper Kings with 26 points. Maryellen Trewhella scored 16 for the Gremlins.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell stopped Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 46-22.
– Chassell edged Jeffers 48-44.
– Baraga outscored Ontonagon 52-39.
– Ewen-Trout Creek smothered Republic-Michigamme 60-21

In boys basketball last evening, Ewen-Trout Creek downed Republic-Michigamme 70-53.

Finlandia University

The Finlandia women’s hockey team fell 5-2 to Northland College last night. Brenna Ceglar and Kylee Hopp scored for the Lions. Sarah Gundry stopped 34 shots.

Both Finlandia basketball teams play at Saint Scholastica tonight.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Minnesota Wild tonight. Coverage begins at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit defenseman Mike Green will miss a couple of weeks. He has a splint on a finger he hurt in Monday’s game.

Coach Jeff Blashill also said yesterday that Anthony Mantha’s recovery from a shoulder injury he suffered December 21st is taking longer than expected. He’ll be out at least another month, and could miss the rest of the season.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Sacramento Kings this evening. Guard Reggie Jackson could be available for tonight’s contest. He’s missed most of the season with a back problem. His status has officially been upgraded to “questionable.”

NFL

Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay has been added to the Pro Bowl roster. Golladay will replace Chris Godwin of the Buccaneers, who is hurt.
