– Calumet took a 12-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, then held on to beat a scrappy Hancock team 50-42. Because of injuries, the Bulldogs had only six players available for the game. Jack Hyrkas led the Copper Kings with 17 points, and Spencer Silvola scored 15 for Hancock.
– Houghton outscored Northland Pines 83-64. Nate Gockenbach scored 25 points for the Gremlins.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Baraga 64-24. Lucas Klein had 20 points for the Lakes.
– Chassell fell to Watersmeet 71-36.
– Ontonagon edged Ewen-Trout Creek 63-62.

MTU Huskies LogoMTU Hockey Climbs in Polls
The Michigan Tech hockey team climbed to number-four in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week. The Huskies were idle last weekend, and will host eighth-ranked Minnesota Duluth this Friday and Saturday.

NHL – Red Wings
The Red Wings host the Maple Leafs tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Former Red Wings’ assistant Paul MacLean is no longer the head coach of the Senators. He was fired yesterday, just a season-and-a-half after he was named NHL Coach of the Year.

NBA – Pistons Host Blazers
The Pistons host the Trailblazers tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NFL – Packers
Green Bal Packers LogoIn the NFL last night, the Packers opened up a 24-point halftime lead, then hung on to pull out a 43-37 victory over the Falcons. Atlanta scored 30 points in the second half, while holding Green Bay to four Mason Crosby field goals to turn a potential rout into a thriller.
