High School

In high school baseball yesterday…
• Houghton and Gogebic split their doubleheader. The Gremlins won the opener 18-0, as Gab Carlson tossed a three-inning no-hitter. Eli Heathman drove in four runs. Heathman added two more RBI in the nightcap, as the Miners rebounded for a 7-5 victory. All of Gogebic’s runs were unearned.

In baseball this afternoon…
• Hancock plays at Calumet. Coverage will begin at 3:45 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
• Houghton travels to Gwinn.
• Jeffers welcomes Negaunee.

In softball yesterday…
• Calumet swept Gwinn 17-2 and 17-6.

On today’s schedule…
• Hancock plays at Houghton. Coverage will begin at 3:45 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
• The Calumet doubleheader at L’Anse has been canceled.

In high school track yesterday, Ishpeming won both team titles at the U.P. Division II regional tournament at Ishpeming.
• On the boys side, Jeffers finished third, and Hancock fourth. Tavin Larson of the Jets won the 800 and 1600-meter runs.
• On the girls side, Hancock placed third. Addison Pizzi of the Bulldogs won the 100-meter hurdles, and the 4×400 relay team took first place.

• Houghton and Calumet compete at the U.P. Division I Regionals at Agassiz Field.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Chassell, Baraga, Ontonagon and Ewen-Trout Creek compete at U.P. Division III Regionals at Wakefield.

In high school golf yesterday…
• Houghton, Calumet, Hancock and Chassell at the West Iron County Invitational at the George Young Course – no report.

On the golf schedule today…
• Houghton and Calumet compete at Negaunee Kiwanis Invitational at the Wawanowin Golf Course.

NBA

In the opening game of the NBA Eastern conference finals last night, the Heat outscored the Celtics 123-116. The Lakers visit the Nuggets as the Western Conference finals continue tonight, with Denver leading that series 1-0.

NHL

The NHL Eastern Conference finals begin this evening, as the Panthers visit the Hurricanes.

MLB

The Tigers lost to the Pirates 8-0 yesterday. Eduardo Rodriguez allowed four runs through five innings, and Pittsburgh added four more in the seventh off Tyler Alexander and José Cisnero.

Detroit has today off, and opens a series at Washington tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers fell to the Cardinals 3-0 last evening. Corbin Burnes gave up all three runs over six innings.

Milwaukee also has today off, and opens a series at Tampa Bay tomorrow evening.

As expected, Brewers pitcher Wade Miley has been placed on the injured list with a lat strain he suffered in Tuesday’s game. Jake Cousins has been called up from Nashville to fill in.
