In high school girls basketball last night…
– Calumet stopped Hancock 45-37. Ellie Djerf scored 13 for the Copper Kings. D’Andra Kero had 12 for the Bulldogs.
– Houghton lost to Westwood 67-52.
– Jeffers shut down Dollar Bay-Tamarack City
53-18.
– Baraga cruised past Chassell 64-31.
– L’Anse smothered Watersmeet 69-25.
Kailyn Voskuhl led the Purple Hornets with 19 points, and Addison Mattson added 18.
– Ontonagon downed Republic-Michigamme 64-25.
– Ewen-Trout Creek stopped Hurley 61-41.

In boys hoops tonight…
– Calumet visits unbeaten Dollar Bay-Tamarack City.
– Houghton tips off at Ishpeming.
– Jeffers hosts Republic-Michigamme.
– Chassell journeys to Wakefield-Marenisco

Kristin Yep has been named the new head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Michigan Tech. Yep served the past two seasons as men’s and women’s coach at NCAA Division III Whittier College in California.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings suffered their second straight shutout loss last night, 3-0 to the Philadelphia Flyers. Jonathan Bernier made 28 saves, as the Wings were outshot 30-16.

The Wings visit the Buffalo Sabres Thursday. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 96-82 last evening. Detroit scored just 10 points in the third quarter. Andre Drummond had 25 points and 18 rebounds.

The Pistons entertain the Phoenix Suns tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Willie Wood has died. Wood was the first black quarterback in the history of what is now the PAC-12, but was not drafted into the NFL. He tried out with the Packers, who turned him into a safety, and he was named to the Pro Bowl eight times between 1960 and 1971. Wood also became the first black professional football head coach, when he was named to lead the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League. Willie Wood was 83.

The Detroit Lions have signed offensive guard Josh Garnett to a contract. Garnett was a first-round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2016, but his career was derailed by injuries. He was released by the 49ers before the start of the 2019 season.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers will play a spring training game in the Dominican Republic. Reports from the Dominican Republic say the Tigers will face the Minnesota Twins March 7th at Juan Marichal Stadium in Santo Domingo.

Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Lakeland a week from today.
