High School

In high school volleyball tournament regional semifinal play last night…
• In Division Three, Calumet swept Negaunee 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17). Elli Djerf and Helen Beiring each had 11 kills. Beiring had 13 digs, and Cami Johnson added 12. The Copper Kings will face Charlevoix for the regional title tomorrow at 6:00 in Manistique. The Rayders eliminated the Emeralds 3-0 in last night’s other semifinal.
• In Division Four, Carney-Nadeau advanced with a 3-0 victory over Mid-Peninsula. The Wolves will face Chassell in the regional championship tomorrow at 7:00 at Forest Park. The Panthers did not have an opponent in the semifinals, because of the COVID-19 activity suspension at Gogebic and Ontonagon County schools. Our coverage of tomorrow night’s match will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3.

MTU

The Michigan Tech hockey team has introduced a commemorative uniform to salute the program’s 100th season. The monochromatic outfit features a white jersey with a black logo similar to that used in the first season of play at what was then called the Michigan College of Mining and Technology. The jersey sleeves and pants have horizontal black and white stripes.

NBA

The NBA season will begin December 22nd. Players have approved the plan for a 72-game campaign, plus playoffs that will stretch well into the summer of 2021. Negotiations with free agents can begin November 20th, and contracts can be signed beginning two days later. Training camps will open December 1st. Team schedules have not been determined. We’ll broadcast select Detroit Pistons games on 99.3 The Lift.

Our high school football playoff coverage continues Friday, as Calumet hosts Negaunee for the Division Six district title. The pregame show will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3.
