In the state high school volleyball tournament last night…
– Calumet advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory over Iron Mountain. The Copper Kings will face Traverse City St. Francis Tuesday at 5:30 at Manistique. It’s the fourth straight regional title for Calumet.
– Houghton’s season ended with a 3-0 loss to Cadillac.

MTU
The Michigan Tech hockey team entertains Bowling Green tonight and tomorrow night. Faceoffs are at 7:07 at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

MTU Huskies LogoThe Tech volleyball team wraps up its regular season with matches at Northwood tonight, and Lake Superior State tomorrow afternoon.

The Huskies football team closes its season tomorrow afternoon at Lake Erie.

The Tech women’s basketball team begins its season tomorrow at home against Taylor Dillinger and the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. Tip-off is at 2:00 at the SDC.

The Wildcats football team concludes its season at Findlay tomorrow afternoon.

The NMU women’s basketball team opens its season at the GLVC-GLIAC Challenge in Quincy, Illinois. They’ll face Quincy tomorrow night, and take on Truman State University from Missouri Sunday afternoon.

The Finlandia University men’s hockey team skates at Concordia-Wisconsin tonight and tomorrow afternoon. The women’s team plays at Lake Forest College this afternoon, and Concordia-Wisconsin tomorrow afternoon.

The Finlandia football team travels all the way to Cincinnati for a game against Mount St. Joseph University tomorrow.

The Detroit Red Wings host the San Jose Sharks tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY. Pavel Datsyuk is expected to make his season debut for Detroit. He’s been recovering from ankle surgery.

The Wings have signed Justin Abdelkader to a seven-year contract extension worth close to 30-million dollars.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Los Angeles Clippers tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is at 3:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Buffalo Bills held off a late scoring attempt by the New York Jets, and claimed a 22-17 victory.

On Sunday, the Detroit Lions visit the Green Bay Packers. Kickoff is at 1:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

MLB
J.D. Martinez has been named Tiger of the Year by the Detroit chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Meanwhile, former Tiger reliever Joaquin Benoit has been traded from the San Diego Padres to the Seattle Mariners.
