Calumet’s Djerf, Johnson Lead WestPAC VB All-Stars

High School

In high school volleyball last night…
– Lake Linden-Hubbell and Ewen-Trout Creek at a triangular at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City – no report.
– L’Anse v Ontonagon – no report.
– Baraga v Chassell – no report.

Calumet claimed the top two honors on the WestPAC All-Conference Volleyball Team. Elli Djerf was named Player of the Year, and Cami Johnson Defensive Specialist of the Year.

Kristi Keranen and Molly Larson of the Copper Kings were named to the First Team, along with Rachael Hall and Daityn Markham from Houghton.

The Second Team includes Gloria Hendrickson and Madison Peterlin from Calumet, Jillian Cyrus from Houghton, and D’Andra Kero from Hancock.

Finlandia

Both Finlandia University soccer teams play in the American Collegiate Athletic Association tournaments this weekend. 
 – The second-seeded women are in Santa Cruz, California, where they’ll open against third seed Mills College tomorrow at 5:00. We’ll bring you the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com, and will also broadcast the championship match on Sunday, if the Lions advance.
 – The fourth-seeded men’s team will face top-seed Wisconsin-Whitewater in the semifinals tomorrow morning in Hudson, New Hampshire.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team opens its schedule tonight and tomorrow at Saint Catherine.

The Lions men’s hockey team begins its campaign at Wisconsin-River Falls tonight and tomorrow night.

The Finlandia football team hosts Adrian College tomorrow.

GLIAC

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team will host Finlandia in an exhibition match tonight at 6:00 at the SDC. Admission is a cash or non-perishable food donation to the Husky Food Access Network.

The Tech soccer team will play at Wisconsin-Parkside today, and Purdue Northwest Sunday.

The MTU volleyball team visits Northern Michigan University tomorrow. 

The Huskies football team entertains Ferris State tomorrow.

The Northern Michigan University football team plays at Northwood.

The Michigan Tech hockey team skates at North Dakota in the US Hockey Hall of Fame Game tomorrow night.

The NMU hockey team hosts Alabama Huntsville tonight and tomorrow night.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers entertain the Mosinee Papermakers tonight at 8:30, and the Fox Cities Ice Dogs tomorrow at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

The Calumet Wolverines host the Ice Dogs tonight, and the Papermakers tomorrow. Both games begin at 7:30 at the Colosseum.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Carolina Panthers tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Chicago Bulls tonight.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers have fired their Triple-A affiliate manager. Doug Mientikiewicz’ dismissal comes just a year after Detroit gave him a two-year extension as leader of the Toledo Mud Hens. No reason was offered.

NFL

In last night’s NFL game, the San Francisco 49ers edged the Arizona Cardinals 28-25. 

On Sunday, the Detroit Lions visit the Oakland Raiders for a 4:05 game. Pregame coverage will begin at 2:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Green Bay Packers face the Chargers in a 4:25 game in Los Angeles.
