MLB

The Tigers split their doubleheader at Oakland yesterday. In the opener, Tarik Skubal gave up just one run over six innings, as Detroit claimed a 7-2 victory. Skubal allowed only two hits, and struck out nine. Jeimer Candelario homered, and Robbie Grossman drove in three runs. In the nightcap, Detroit collected only four hits in a 5-0 loss. Garrett Hill tossed five scoreless innings, but left in the sixth, as the Athletics scored all of their runs.

The Tigers have today off, and host the Twins tomorrow. Coverage begins at 5:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Yet another Detroit starting pitcher has landed on the injured list. This time, it’s rookie Beau Brieske, who is suffering from “right forearm soreness.” Brieske had been scratched from his final start before the All-Star break, ostensibly to provide him with some extra rest. Detroit has reinstated José Cisnero from the bereavement list.

Before yesterday’s games, Detroit also recalled infielders Kody Clemens and Zach Short from Toledo. Clemens is expected to see considerable time at first base, while Spencer Torkelson tries to rediscover his swing with the Mud Hens. Reliever Will Vest has been placed on the paternity list.

The Brewers return to the field tonight, when they host the Rockies. Corbin Burnes will start against Antonio Senzatela.
