Crew, Cubs to Decide NL Central Today – Monday Sports Wrap

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University soccer teams will host Northland College today. The women’s game will start at 4:00, and the men’s contest at 6:00.

MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team earned a 1-0 victory in a non-conference match at Northern Michigan University yesterday. Jesse Jacobusse scored the game’s only goal in the 73rd minute.

MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs will decide the National League Central Division Championship in a single playoff game today, after both teams finished in a first-place tie after the regular season ended yesterday.

The Brewers bombed the Detroit Tigers 11-0. Detroit starter Spencer Turnbull pitched into the sixth inning, and gave up four runs. Milwaukee put the game away with a six-run outburst in the seventh inning. Jesús Aguilar homered. Gio Gonzalez threw five three-hit innings to earn the win.

The Cubs defeated the Saint Louis Cardinals 10-5. The division title will be decided this afternoon at 1:05 Eastern Time at Wrigley Field. José Quintana will pitch for the Cubs. The Brewers have not yet named a starter. The winner will host one of the Division Series beginning Thursday. The loser will host the wild card play-in game tomorrow.

The National League West Division champion will also be decided in a one-game playoff this afternoon. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies will meet at Dodger Stadium.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers blanked the Buffalo Bills 22-0 yesterday. Aaron Rodgers threw for 298 yards and a touchdown, and the Green Bay defense intercepted two Buffalo passes.

The Dallas Cowboys booted a 38-yard field goal as time expired to edge the Detroit Lions 28-26. The game-winning kick came just two minutes after Detroit had taken a one-point lead with a Matthew Stafford-to-Golden Tate touchdown pass. Stafford completed 24 of 30 passes for 307 yards and two scores.

In last night’s NFL game, the Baltimore Ravens downed the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-14.

In tonight’s contest, the Denver Broncos entertain the Kansas City Chiefs. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
