In NBA tournament opening-round play yesterday…
• The Hawks stopped the Knicks 113-96. Atlanta leads that series 3-1.
• The Suns got past the Lakers 100-92. That series is tied 2-2.
• The Nets outscored the Celtics 141-126. Brooklyn leads that series 3-1.
• The Clipper shut down the Mavericks 106-81. That set is tied 2-2.

Today…
• The Wizards host the 76ers. Philadelphia leads that series 3-0.
• The Grizzlies entertain the Jazz. Utah is up 2-1 in that set.

NHL

In NHL second-round playoff action last evening…
• The Lightning edged the Hurricanes 2-1. Carolina leads that series 1-0.
• The Avalanche buried the Golden Knights 7-1. Colorado takes a 1-0 lead in that set.

Today…
• The Canadiens and Maple Leafs wrap up their opening-round series, which is tied 3-3.
• The Bruins and Islanders continue their second-round set, which Boston leads 1-0.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers completed a series sweep pf the New York Yankees with a 6-2 victory yesterday. The Tigers took control early, with two runs in the first inning on a Nomar Mazara double. They added four in the fourth, as Willi Castro’s bases-loaded double drove in three. Tarik Skubal pitched six shutout innings, striking out eight, and giving up just three hits.

The Tigers visit the Milwaukee Brewers today. Tyler Alexander will start for Detroit, filling in for the injured José Ureña. Corbin Burnes will counter for the Brewers. Coverage begins at 1:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit has sent pitcher Bryan Garcia down to Toledo, and brought up pitcher Rony Garcia.

Brandon Woodruff turned in seven strong innings as the Brewers blanked the Washington Nationals 3-0 yesterday. Avisaíl García’s two-run homer off Max Scherzer in the first inning provided all the runs the Crew would need. Omar Narváez’ solo shot in the ninth added an insurance run. Woodruff fanned 10 over seven innings, and gave up just two hits.

Milwaukee has placed reliever Ángel Perdomo on the injured list with a lower back strain. Alec Bettinger has been called up from Nashville to fill in.

Cycling

In Copper Harbor yesterday, Nicolas Enjelbert of Viroqua, Wisconsin, won the Experience the Keweenaw Enduro, shading Hancock’s Justin Hoffmeyer by less than a second over the three courses. Jeff Burcar from Irvine, California placed third. Maria Horton of Marquette won the women’s division, with Houghton’s Kate Thayer finishing second. See full results here.
