Farrell Tosses No-Hitter for Houghton In WestPAC Baseball Tourney – Sunday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school baseball yesterday…
• At the WestPAC baseball tournament, Houghton won its opening game against Negaunee, 6-0. Kade Farrell threw a no-hitter for the Gremlins. He walked just one batter. Houghton lost 16-1 to Iron Mountain in the championship game.
• At the WestPAC softball tournament, Houghton edged Hancock 9-8. Other local scores from the tournament were not reported. Negaunee won the tournament title.

Also in softball yesterday…

NBA

On the opening day of the NBA tournament yesterday…
• The Bucks edged the Heat 109-107 in overtime.
• The Mavericks downed the Clippers 113-103.
• The Nets shut down the Celtics 104-93.
• The Trail Blazers outscored the Nuggets 123-109.

Another set of conference quarterfinal series opens today…
• The 76ers host the Wizards.
• The Suns welcome the Lakers.
• The Knicks entertain the Hawks.
• The Jazz host the Grizzlies.

NHL

In the NHL playoffs yesterday…
• The Lightning dumped the Panthers 6-2. Tampa Bay leads that series 3-1.
• The Islanders skated past the Penguins 4-1. That series is tied 2-2.
• The Maple Leafs pounded the Canadiens 5-1. That set is tied 1-1.
• The Golden Knights blanked the Wild 4-0. Vegas leads that series 3-1.

Today…
• The Predators welcome the Hurricanes. Carolina leads that series 2-1.
• The Blues host the Avalanche. Colorado leads that set 3-0.
• The Capitals entertain the Bruins. Boston leads that series 3-1.
• The Jets welcome the Oilers. Winnipeg is 2-0 in that series.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers’ four-game win streak ended with a 7-5 rain-delayed loss to the Kansas City Royals yesterday. Matthew Boyd took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits over five innings. Robbie Grossman homered.

That series concludes in Kansas City this afternoon. Casey Mize will start against Kris Bubic. Coverage begins at 1:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 yesterday. Daniel Robertson’s solo home run in the top of the seventh inning provided the winning margin. Luis Urías also homered.

That series wraps up in Cincinnati this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Luis Castillo.

The Brewers made a number of roster moves yesterday. Along with adding newly-acquired shortstop Willie Adames and pitcher Trevor Richards, they brought pitcher Alec Bettinger up from Nashville. They sent utility man Pablo Reyes down to Nashville, and designated Billy McKinney for assignment.
