Fast Pitch League Celebrates 50th Birthday Tonight – Friday Sports Wrap


The Detroit Tigers return to action at Kansas City tonight, following the All-Star break. Daniel Norris will pitch against Danny Duffy. Pregame coverage will start at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers will resume play this evening at home against the San Francisco Giants. Zach Davies will start against Madison Bumgarner.

Fast Pitch Softball

The Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League All Star Game will be played tonight at the Chassell Field. Action begins at 7:00. After the game, enjoy coffee and cake to celebrate the league’s 50th anniversary. All are welcome, especially former players and coaches.

Twilight League

The annual Leo Durocher Baseball Tournament starts tonight. Pool play begins this evening at 6:30, with REL/Mohawk Technology facing Dean Kangas/State Farm at the Hancock Driving Park, and Garnet Garage taking on Superior National Bank/Stanton at the Stanton Field.

The rest of the games will be played at Stanton. Tomorrow, REL/Mohawk Technology faces the Channing Railroaders at 11:00. Garnet Garage meets the Tri-City North Stars from Negaunee at 1:30. Dean Kangas/State Farm plays the Railroaders at 4:00. Superior National Bank/Stanton takes on the North Stars at 6:30. On Sunday, the North Copper Country Oldtimers will play an exhibition against the South Copper Country Oldtimers at noon. The tournament championship match will begin at 3:00.


Onsite registration and bib pickup for the Run the Keweenaw Trails Festival will be held tonight from 5:00 until 8:00 at the Copper Harbor Community Building. There are also a couple of sign-up opportunities tomorrow, before the Mount Baldy Summit Run in the morning at Eagle Harbor, and the 10k Copper Harbor Trails Challenge tomorrow afternoon. The weekend will end with the 25K Carl Olson Memorial Adventure Run Sunday morning in Copper Harbor. For full details, click here.
