Finlandia V’Ball Opens with Win – Friday Sports Wrap

MLB – Tigers
The Detroit Tigers collected only two hits, and fell to the Los Angeles Angels 2-0 last night. Matt Shoemaker pitched 7-1/3rd innings for L-A, giving up just one hit. Detroit’s Randy Wolf was almost as good – giving up five hits and one run over seven innings, and taking a tough loss. Game details are here.

The Tigers open a set at Toronto tonight. Matt Boyd will start against R.A. Dickey. Hear the first pitch at 7:07 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Taylor Jungmann will pitch against Raisel Iglesias.

NFL – Lions Play Tonight

The Green Bay Packers host the Philadelphia Eagles tomorrow night.

The Packers will be without defensive tackle Letroy Guion for the first three games of the season. Guion was arrested on felony marijuana possession charges in February. His suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy was confirmed yesterday.

MTU Soccer Exhibition Tomorrow
The Michigan Tech soccer team will host Neenah Velocity in an exhibition match tomorrow afternoon at 1:00.

Finlandia Volleyball Wins
Finlandia Lions New LogoThe Finlandia University volleyball team opened its season with a 3-2 victory over Northland College last night. The Lions won the first set, then dropped the next two. They came back to win the fourth set, and edged the Lumberjills 15-12 in the tiebreaker. Game details are here.

The Finlandia football team introduced its new jerseys yesterday. They’re very traditional, using the school’s white and blue colors. Helmets are white, with a blue Lions logo. You can see them here. Finlandia opens its first football season a week from tomorrow against Alma College at McAfee Field.
