MTU Tennis Falls to Tiffin
The Michigan Tech women’s tennis team is in Midland. Yesterday, the Huskies lost to Tiffin 5-4. Kwang Suthijindawong won again at number-one singles, and is now 35-0 in GLIAC singles matches in her career. The defeat means Tech will not participate in the GLIAC tournament beginning Friday. The top eight teams in the league make the tourney. The Huskies will wrap up their season against Findlay today at noon.

The Michigan Tech football team is preparing to host Ferris State on Saturday. Both the Huskies and the Bulldogs are unbeaten, and ranked in the top-15 nationally. Huskies’ coach Tom Kearly knows it’ll be a challenge to stop Ferris State quarterback Jason VanderLaan… KEARLY A. At halftime, the Huskies will honor members of their 2004 GLIAC championship team… KEARLY B. Kickoff on Saturday is at 1:00 at Sherman Field.

Finlandia Volleyball
The Finlandia University volleyball team defeated Northland College 3-2 last night. Katelyn Anderson had 19 kills and 10 digs for the Lions.

The Finlandia Blue Line Club will host a pancake breakfast at the Houghton County Arena Saturday from 8:00 until noon. The cost is $5.00; children under age six eat free. Tickets are available in advance from any Finlandia hockey player, or at the door.

NBA – Pistons Prepare for Final Preseason Game
The Detroit Pistons play their final NBA preseason game at home against the 76ers tonight. Rookie Spencer Dinwiddie is expected to see his first court time. He’s recovering from knee surgery, and has just been cleared to play. We will carry select Pistons games this season on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Muck Run Early Sign-Up Deadline
The early sign-up deadline for this year’s MTU Muck Run is tomorrow. To qualify for the discounted race, entries must be postmarked by October 24th. The 5K Muck Run will be held at the MTU Trails a week from Saturday. You can also sign up the morning of the race. You can download the registration form here. Money raised supports the Huskies cross country teams.

Western U.P. Cheer Challenge Saturday
L’Anse High School will host the first Western U.P. Cheer Challenge Saturday. Cheer teams from Calumet, Ewen-Trout Creek, Jeffers and L’Anse will take part. The doors open at 4:00, and competition starts at 6:00. Concessions will be available. Admission is $5.00. Children ages six and younger get in free.

The regular high school football season wraps up tomorrow night. Calumet fights for a post-season berth at Gladstone. Hear the broadcast on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
