Finlandia Women’s Soccer Coach Departs – Wednesday Sports Wrap

Finlandia

Finlandia University is looking for a new women’s soccer coach.

Current coach Grace Sokolow has been hired to head the women’s program at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire. The announcement was made yesterday.

In her two years at Finlandia, Sokolow led the Lions to a record of 11-6-1, and a runner-up finish in the 2019 American Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.

MTU

Seven women’s soccer players have committed to playing at Michigan Tech. Four are from Michigan, including…
• AK Syracuse, a midfielder from Grand Rapids,
• Avery McNally, a midfielder from Sterling Heights,
• Emilie Clayton, a defender from Macomb,
• Tristyn Phillips, a defender from Troy.

The other three are from Minnesota…
• Ella Roach, a defender from Minnetonka,
• Grace Hoeppner, a defender from Burnsville,
• Mia Van der Heide, a forward from Minneapolis.

WCHA

Northern Michigan University’s game against LSSU scheduled for tonight has been postponed because of recent positive COVID-19 tests at NMU. Because the game is a league contest, it will be rescheduled. This weekend’s non-conference games against Bemidji State have been called off. The Wildcats are hoping to be cleared to begin their campaign next weekend at Minnesota State.

Michigan Tech’s home games this Friday and Saturday against Minnesota State are still scheduled to be played.

MLB

The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with free agent catcher Luke Maile. The deal has not yet officially been announced, pending a physical. Maile is known for defense, not offense. He spent parts of five seasons as a backup for the Rays and Blue Jays. He signed with the Pirates last season, but missed the entire campaign with a broken finger.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers have signed receiver and return specialist Tavon Austin. Austin is a seven-year veteran who has played for the Rams and Cowboys. He signed with the 49ers this season, but was injured in training camp, and negotiated his release. To make room on the roster, the Packers cut receiver Darrius Shepherd.

The thrice-delayed game between the Ravens and Steelers will be played this afternoon. The rare Wednesday daytime tilt came about after a number of positive COVID-19 tests among Baltimore players and staffers. Two more positives were reported yesterday – one player, and one staff member – but league officials said they had already begun isolation because of contact tracing. Pregame coverage will begin at 3:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Because the Ravens are playing today, their game against the Cowboys that was scheduled for tomorrow night will be postponed until Tuesday.

We will hold off on scoring Week 12 of The Wolf Pro Football Challenge until after today’s game. Because there will be no Thursday game this week, Kevin and Jeff will announce their Week 13 picks tomorrow, and your picks can be submitted until Friday at noon at our sponsors.
