FinnU Baseball Drops Two at Whitewater – Sunday Sports Wrap

College Baseball

The Finlandia University baseball team lost both of its games at Wisconsin-Whitewater yesterday, 12-4 and 10-0. The Lions took a brief 1-0 lead in the opener, but the Warhawks responded with six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. Joe Galindo had three hits and scored twice for FinnU. The Lions got just one hit in the nightcap.

Finlandia fell to 0-32 for the season, and will play at Whitewater again this afternoon.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 118-104 last night. Six Pistons scored in double figures, led by Jerami Grant and Saddiq Bey, with 14 points each. Grant and Mason Plumlee returned to the lineup, after each missed five games with injuries.

The Pistons host the Chicago Bulls tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL

Detroit Red Wings ended their season with a 5-4 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets last evening. Jakub Vrana, Danny DeKeyser and Sam Gagner scored for Detroit, and Valtteri Filppula’s late goal forced the extra period. Max Domi found the net with 21 seconds remaining in OT. Curtis Pickard made 31 saves.

The Wings conclude their season with a record of 19-27-10, tied for last place with Columbus in the NHL Central Division.

The NHL playoffs were originally scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Because of COVID-19 postponements, however, the regular season has been extended until May 19th, to allow for make-up games.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-3 yesterday. Robbie Grossman hit a leadoff home run, but it was a five-run seventh inning that earned the Tigers the victory. José Ureña struggled, giving up nine hits before leaving in the fifth inning, but limiting the damage to just two runs. Michael Fulmer got the win in relief.

The Tigers host the Twins again today. Matthew Boyd will face Kenta Maeda. Coverage begins at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Outfielder Nomar Mazara returned from the injured list yesterday, after missing three weeks with an abdominal strain. Victor Reyes was sent to Toledo to make room. Reliever Erasmo Ramirez has also been placed on the IL, after suffering a right pectoralis strain while warming up before Friday’s game. Joe Jiménez was brought up from Toledo.

Adrian Houser led the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-2 victory over the Miami Marlins last evening. Houser gave up two runs over six innings, and struck out 10. He also hit his second home run of the season. Three Milwaukee relievers added eight more strikeouts over the final three frames. Avisaíl García had three hits, including a homer.

The Brewers play in Miami again today. Brett Anderson will return from the disabled list to start for the Crew. Sandy Alcantara will counter for Miami.

Manny Piña returned from the injured list before last night’s contest. Pitcher Brent Suter has been placed in the bereavement list.
