FinnU Baseball Splits Twin Bill – Monday Sports Update

MLB
The Detroit Tigers lost 8-5 to the Kansas City Royals yesterday. Francisco Liriano tossed five no-hit innings, and entered the sixth with a 2-0 lead. He gave up a lead-off home run, and then left the game with runners on first and second. Alex Wilson relieved him, loaded the bases, and served up a grand slam. Detroit tied the contest with three in the bottom of the sixth, but the Royals added three more off Drew VerHagen and Buck Farmer in the top of the seventh to win the game.

The Tigers have today off, and open an interleague series at Pittsburgh tomorrow night. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Chad Kuhl. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers won their sixth straight game yesterday, defeating the Miami Marlins 4-2. Junior Guerra gave up a run in the first, then cruised through the fifth. He left with the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth, but Jeremy Jeffress pitched out of the jam. Christian Yelich slugged a two-run homer.

The Brewers also have today off, and will begin a quick interleague set against the Royals tomorrow night. Zach Davies will pitch against Ian Kennedy.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University baseball team earned a split in its doubleheader at Wisconsin-Superior last evening. The Yellowjackets scored eight runs in the first inning of the opener, and went on to a 13-3 win. The Lions scored three times in the first inning of the nightcap, and earned a 5-3 victory. Brandon Teichman earned the complete-game win.

NHL
In NHL playoff action yesterday…
– Pittsburgh advanced to the second round, with an 8-5 victory over Philadelphia. The Penguins won that series 4-2.
– Nashville shut out Colorado 5-0, to move into the second round. The Predators took that set 4-2.

Tonight…
-Boston skates at Toronto. The Bruins lead that series 3-2.
– Washington visits Columbus. The Capitals lead that set 3-2.

NBA
In the NBA playoffs yesterday…
– San Antonio defeated Golden State 103-90. The Warriors lead that set 3-1.
– Milwaukee edged Boston 104-102. That series is tied 2-2.
– Washington downed Toronto 106-98. That set is tied 2-2.
– Cleveland got past Indiana 104-100. That series is tied 2-2.

Tonight…
– Oklahoma City tips off at Utah.
