High School
The girls high school district basketball tournament opens tonight…
– In Class C, Hancock plays at L’Anse at 7:00. Pregame coverage will begin around 6:40 on 97.7 The Wolf and TheWolf.com. Houghton plays at Calumet at 7:00. Pregame coverage will start around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– In Class D at Jeffers High School, Ontonagon faces Lake Linden-Hubbell at 6:00, and Jeffers takes on Chassell at 7:30.

Finlandia
The Finlandia softball team completed a four-game sweep with two wins at the Dome Classic in Marquette yesterday. In their first game, the Lions plated seven runs in the second inning, and outscored Ripon College 14-6. They then scored four times in the first inning, on the way to an 8-3 victory over Wisconsin-Superior.

NHL
Trevor Daley’s goal with six seconds remaining in overtime gave the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers last night. Goals by Andreas Athanasiou and Darren Helm gave Detroit an early lead before the Rangers came back to force the extra period. Jimmy Howard made 36 saves. The Wings visit the Saint Louis Blues Wednesday night. Pregame coverage begins at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Charlotte Hornets opened up a 23-point lead in the first half, and cruised to a 114-98 victory over the Detroit Pistons yesterday. Blake Griffin scored 20 for Detroit. The Pistons visit the Toronto Raptors tonight. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
Half of the Detroit Tigers and the Pittsburgh Pirates played to an 8-8 tie yesterday afternoon. Nicholas Castellanos homered. The other half of the Tigers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3. Matthew Boyd gave up a run over two innings. Jim Adduci homered. The Tigers take on the Baltimore Orioles this afternoon. The Milwaukee Brewers downed the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 yesterday. Hernán Pérez had a pair of doubles, and drove in three runs. The Brewers meet the Cleveland Indians this afternoon.
