High School

– Ewen-Trout Creek travels to Watersmeet.

In cross country, local teams will run at the WestPAC Finals at the Kilpela Farm.

Gwinn is the latest school to confirm that it has applied for membership in the Western Peninsula Athletic Conference. The Modeltowners would move almost all of their sports to WestPAC schedules. The exceptions would be tennis and wrestling, which the WestPAC does not include. Gwinn’s application could be voted on by the conference as early as next week, along with the pending application from Iron Mountain.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17) to Wisconsin-Superior last night. Kaisa Holmstrom led the Lions with eight kills. Nicole Anderson had 21 assists and three aces.

Finlandia’s Marina Dalton has been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for volleyball.

The Finlandia Blue Line Club’s annual pancake breakfast will be held in the Wiitanen Room at the Houghton County Arena Saturday between 8:00 and noon. The cost is $5.00; children under six eat free. Tickets are available from all hockey coaches and players, and at the door.
