In high school girls basketball last night…
– Calumet lost to Marquette 68-35.
– Jeffers overpowered Republic-Michigamme 54-28.

– Hancock visits Lake Linden-Hubbell.
– L’Anse tips off at Baraga.
– Ontonagon hosts Wakefield-Marenisco.

In boys hoops this evening…
– Houghton plays at Calumet.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City entertains Watersmeet in a game that was postponed from January 8th. That contest will begin earlier than usual, with the JV contest at 5:30, and the varsity at 7:00.

In high school hockey tonight, Houghton welcomes Kingsford. Our broadcast will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

In high school swimming, Houghton entertains Marquette today.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team defeated Kalamazoo College 68-58 in overtime yesterday. Katie Lundeen had 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions, who have won five of their last six games.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons edged the New Orleans Pelicans 98-94 last night. Blake Griffin scored 37 points, including 20 in the first quarter. Zaza Pachulia grabbed 10 rebounds, as Andre Drummond continues to go through concussion protocol. The Pistons visit the Dallas Mavericks tomorrow. Pregame coverage begins at 8:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings are off until February 1st because of the NHL All-Star break.

MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers have extended the contract of general manager David Stearns, and have also named him president of baseball operations. Stearns was named GM in 2015, replacing Doug Melvin.

The Detroit Tigers have become the latest team to switch to mobile ticket entry. Tickets will be published to your smartphone via the Major League Baseball Ballpark App. Fans who do not have smartphones will be able to have tickets printed at the gate. The Pistons and Red Wings are already using a similar system.

Retro Ski
The Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club will hold its annual Retro Ski Sunday at the Maasto Hiihto trails. You’re encouraged to wear old style gear and bring your old skis (but it’s not required). Meet at the Tomasi Trail Head at 1:30 for a back country ski. Afterward, the group will head to a restaurant for a meal and some social time. There is no official registration, but please call either Jay Green at 487-5411 or John Diebel at 281-1486 to let them know you are coming, so they have an idea of how many to expect. Our Finlandia University athletics broadcasts continue this weekend, with two men’s hockey games. The Lions will host Trine University Friday – pregame coverage will begin at 6:55. FinnU will entertain Adrian College Saturday – pregame coverage will begin at 2:55 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.
