In high school volleyball yesterday…
– Houghton swept Westwood 3-0.
– Jeffers downed Hancock 3-1 (28-26, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22)
– Calumet fell to Iron Mountain 3-2 (17-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-18, 12-15).
– Lake Linden-Hubbell swept Bessemer 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-4).
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City v Wakefield-Marenisco – not reported.
– Ewen-Trout Creek defeated Baraga 3-0.
– Ontonagon v Watersmeet – not reported.

In volleyball tomorrow…
– Houghton plays at the Rock Invitational at Gladstone.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Chassell, Ontonagon and Baraga compete at the Baraga Invitational.

In high school football tonight…
– Unbeaten Calumet will host Westwood. It’s the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Our broadcast coverage will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3, KBear102.com, and the free KBear Apple and Android apps.
– Unbeaten Hancock travels to Negaunee, in what may also be the first-ever meeting between those two squads.
– Houghton journeys to Iron Mountain.
– L’Anse visits the Gogebic Miners.
– Ontonagon welcomes Superior Central.

Tomorrow, Lake Linden-Hubbell entertains Gwinn.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team walloped Eureka College 13-0 yesterday. It’s the most goals the Lions have ever scored in a match. Kirsten L’Esperance tied a school record with four goals. Erika Lambert and Rylie Steele each scored twice. Eureka never got a shot off at goalie Haley Makela.

The Finlandia men’s team dropped a 3-0 decision at Eureka College yesterday.

The Finlandia volleyball team is in Holland, Michigan, for the MIAA preview tournament. The Lions will face Kalamazoo College and Albion College this evening, and Adrian College and the host Hope College team tomorrow.

The Finlandia football team travels to Ripon College tomorrow afternoon.

MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team plays at Bemidji State this afternoon.

The Tech volleyball team visits Saginaw Valley State tonight, and Lake Superior State tomorrow.

The Tech football team entertains Hillsdale tomorrow. Kickoff is at 1:00 at Sherman Field.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University football team hosts UT-Permian Basin tomorrow afternoon.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and host the Saint Louis Cardinals tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Austin Gomber. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

There’s no word from Fox Sports Detroit as to who will be calling tonight’s game on television. Regular broadcasters Mario Impemba and Rod Allen were pulled from Wednesday’s broadcast after they apparently got into a fight after Tuesday’s game. Observers say Allen attacked Impemba from behind and put him in a choke hold, although Allen’s agent denies that. Kirk Gibson was already scheduled to do color for the next two series. Fox Sports says it is conducting an internal review.

The Milwaukee Brewers also had yesterday off, and host the San Francisco Giants this evening. Chase Anderson will pitch against Derek Holland.

NFL
In last night’s National Football League season opener, the Philadelphia Eagles got past the Atlanta Falcons 18-12.

The Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears Sunday night. The Detroit Lions entertain the New York Jets Monday night. Hear both games on 99.3 The Lift.
