MLB

The Detroit Tigers collected just four hits last evening, as they lost to the Kansas City Royals 4-1. Matthew Boyd allowed four runs over seven innings, and took the loss. He also struck out 10 batters, becoming the first Tigers hurler to rack up double-digit strikeouts in three consecutive starts since Justin Verlander in 2009, and the second since Mickey Lolich accomplished the feat in 1971.

The Tigers conclude that series in Kansas City today. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Homer Bailey. Pregame coverage will start at 1:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit will bring reliever Victor Alcántara back from the injured list for today’s game. Eduardo Jiménez is being sent down to Toledo. Center fielder JaCoby Jones is also headed to the Mud Hens for a rehab stint before he comes off the injured list. He’s recovering from back spasms.

Ben Gamel’s RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants last night. Milwaukee had scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead, only to see San Francisco score twice in the top of the ninth off Jeremy Jeffress to tie it up. Zach Davies turned in another good start, giving up an unearned run on two hits over six innings.

The Brewers will host the Giants again this afternoon. Jhoulys Chacín will start against Tyler Beede.
