MLB

The Detroit Tigers logged a loss and a win in Oakland last night.

The loss came in the completion of a game that was suspended back in May. Detroit trailed 5-3 as play resumed in the bottom of the seventh. The Athletics added two more off David McKay in the top of the ninth, to close out a 7-3 victory.

The win was a 5-4, 11-inning triumph in the regularly-scheduled contest. Willi Castro doubled home Dawel Lugo with the winning run. Starter Spencer Turnbull left as the A’s scored all four of their runs in the second inning. Seven relievers combined to give up just two more hits, and strike out 13. Detroit got two back on a Christin Stewart home run in the seventh, and tied the game when Lugo singled home two in the eighth.

The Tigers continue that series in Oakland tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Chris Bassitt. Pregame coverage starts at 8:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers picked up a badly-needed 7-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs last night. Zach Davies gave up a run over five innings. Christian Yelich and Yasmani Grandal homered.

The Brewers host the Cubs again this evening. Gio Gonzalez will pitch against Yu Darvish.

The Cardinals lost, so they now lead the Cubs by 2.5 games in the National League Central Division, with the Brewers 6.5 out, and four games back in the wild card race.

NFL

The Detroit Lions open their regular campaign Sunday with a 4:25 game at Arizona. Pregame coverage will begin at 2:30 on 99.3 The Lift. Defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand will miss the game because of an elbow injury.
