Fulmer

MLB
Michael Fulmer tossed eight solid innings, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-3 yesterday. Fulmer gave up a run in the first. Detroit matched that run with a Victor Martinez homer in the second, then took the lead with two runs in the fourth. The Giants tied the game with two off Fulmer in the top of the seventh, but Justin Upton’s two-run single put Detroit back on top in the bottom of the inning. Justin Wilson pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save.

Cabrera

The Tigers host the Giants again tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Ty Blach. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was pulled from yesterday’s game after the sixth inning because of tightness in his left hip. It’s one of several health issues Cabrera has been playing through. He said he hopes to be back in the lineup today.

Nelson

Detroit’s top pick in the recent amateur draft has signed his contract. Alex Faedo is a right-handed pitcher who helped the University of Florida win this year’s College World Series, and was named the series’ Most Valuable Player.

Thames

Jimmy Nelson turned in seven effective innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-2 yesterday. Nelson struck out eight, and gave up just one run. Milwaukee scored three runs in the second inning, and added two in the fifth to build an early lead. Eric Thames blasted two home runs, and Stephen Vogt and Travis Shaw each hit one.

The Brewers wrap up that set against the Orioles tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Jayson Aquino.
