MLB
Michael Fulmer pitched five effective innings in his major league debut, and the Detroit Tigers pounded the Minnesota Twins 9-2 Friday night. Fulmer gave up two runs on seven hits. He walked one, and struck out four.  The Tigers took an early lead, scoring three runs off Minnesota starter Phil Hughes in the first inning. They added a run in the fifth on a Miguel Cabrera homer, then ripped the Twins’ bullpen for three runs in the eighth, and two more in the ninth. Victor Martinez had four hits, and drove in two runs. Nick Castellanos had three hits, and three RBI.

The Tigers will continue that weekend series at Minnesota this afternoon. Jordan Zimmermann will start for Detroit. Tyler Duffey will counter for the Twins. Hear the first pitch at 2:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Miami Marlins 6-3. Miami starter Adam Conley tossed 7-2/3rds innings of no-hit ball, but was removed from the game because he’d thrown 116 pitches. Milwaukee spoiled the no-hit effort by rallying for three runs in the ninth. Brewers’ starter Zach Davies gave up four runs over five innings. He was helped out of a jam in the fifth when the Milwaukee infield recorded the team’s first triple play in nearly five years.
