High School
In girls basketball yesterday…
– Houghton broke open a tight game with a strong third quarter, and defeated Gladstone 55-39. Cara Monette led a balanced Gremlins attack with 10 points.
– Calumet lost a tight 56-55 contest to Petoskey at the Redette Shootout at Marquette High School.the Copper Kings will face Sault Ste. Marie today.

In hockey, the MacInnes Holiday Tournament opens tonight. Hancock will skate against Howell at 6:00, and Houghton will face Calumet at 8:00. The consolation and championship games will be played tomorrow. Hear all of the games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University hockey team skates against Cornell in the Florida Classic this afternoon at 4:00. Merrimack and Colorado College meet in the other opening game.

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 last evening. Detroit fell behind 2-0 in the first period. They came back to tie the game on Thomas Vanek’s unassisted goal in the third period, but Evander Kane buried the game-winner two minutes later. Henrik Zetterberg and Drew Miller also scored for Detroit. Petr Mrazek took the loss. The Wings will skate at Ottawa tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons will entertain the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. Tip-off will be at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
