Girls Hoops Tourney Begins Tonight – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

The girls high school basketball tournament begins tonight…
• In Division Four quarterfinal action, Chassell plays at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City.
• In Division Three quarterfinals, L’Anse entertains Ishpeming. Negaunee plays at Westwood. Hancock visits Jeffers – coverage begins at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

College Hockey

Lake Superior State University is seeded third in the NCAA Hockey Tournament east regional, after winning the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament over the weekend. The Lakers will open the tournament against second-seed Massachusetts Friday evening at 6:30 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Two other WCHA teams also made the NCAA field of 16. Minnesota State is seeded second in the west regional, and will play third-seed Quinnipiac. Bemidji State is seeded fourth in the east regional, and will face top-seed Wisconsin.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team battled top-ranked Grand Valley State to a 2-2 tie yesterday afternoon. Jesse Jacobusse gave the Huskies an early lead. After the Lakers scored twice, Grace Shaw’s goal in the 87th minute forced extra time.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Nashville Predators tomorrow. Coverage begins at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Chicago Bulls shut down the Detroit Pistons 100-86 last evening. Jerami Grant led Detroit with 26 points.

The Pistons visit the Indiana Pacers Wednesday. We’ll join the game in progress after high school basketball on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

In Grapefruit League play, Akil Baddoo hit his fourth home run of the spring, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 yesterday. Starter Matt Manning gave up two runs over two innings. Michael Fulmer turned in three innings of one-hit relief.

The Tigers face the Toronto Blue Jays today. Julio Teheran will start for Detroit.

In Cactus League action, the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Seattle Mariners 3-1 yesterday. Starter Freddy Peralta pitched into the fifth inning, and gave up just one run.

The Brewers will play the Cleveland Indians today. Brandon Woodruff is scheduled to start.
