MLB
Matt Boyd turned in eight strong innings, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 8-1 last night. Boyd gave up just three hits – one of them a home run by Robbie Grossman in the seventh inning. The Tigers got home runs from James McCann and Miguel Cabrera.

That series continues in Minnesota tonight. Buck Farmer will make his first start of the season for Detroit, supplanting the struggling Anibal Sanchez and Mike Pelfrey. Jose Berrios will counter for the Twins. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Starter Jordan Zimmermann threw another simulated game yesterday, and struggled again.

The Indians won, and still lead the Tigers by seven games in the American League Central Division. Any combination of six Cleveland wins or Detroit losses clinches the division title for the Indians. Baltimore lost, so Detroit trails the Orioles by a game and a half in the race for the final American League playoff berth.

Matt Garza struggled, as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 last night. Garza couldn’t make it through the fifth inning. He allowed eight hits, and was charged with five runs. Martin Maldonado homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers will host the Pirates again tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Chad Kuhl.
