Chicago Cubs LogoThe curse is over. The Chicago Cubs are champions of baseball for the first time since 1908. Last night’s seventh game of the World Series included all the drama one could have hoped for. Chicago led in the eighth inning when Cleveland’s Rajai Davis tied the score with a two-run homer off Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman. The contest was delayed 17 minutes by rain after the ninth inning. In the top of the 10th, Ben Zobrist doubled home one run for the Cubs, and Miguel Montero singled him home for an insurance run. They needed it – Davis drove in another Indians run in the bottom of the 10th, before Mike Montgomery got Michael Martinez to ground out to third base to end the game.  Zobrist was named the series’ MVP.

MHSAA
The Michigan High School Athletic Association has expressed its disappointment, following the Big 10’s decision to begin scheduling Friday night football games. MHSAA LogoMHSAA Executive Director Jack Roberts said he was “saddened” by the move, which could cause lower attendance at some high school contests, and interfere with local broadcast coverage. Despite the league’s decision, the University of Michigan and Michigan State have said they will continue to avoid scheduling Friday night games at home, with one exception. The Spartans have traditionally played a Friday evening game on Labor Day weekend, when many high school games are scheduled on Thursday. Both the Spartans and Wolverines will be obliged to play when away games are scheduled on Fridays.

Calumet plays for a high school football district title Friday night at Negaunee. Lake Linden-Hubbell hosts Norway in a district title game Saturday afternoon. Hear both games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
