Houghton shut out Hancock 2-0 in the opening game of the high school hockey tournament last night. Spencer Donnelly scored the game-winner in the second period, Cale Markham added a late empty-netter. Marcus Gloss earned the shutout in goal. The Bulldogs outshot the Gremlins 30-18. Houghton will face L’Anse tomorrow night at 6:00 at MacInnes Arena. Jeffers will take on Calumet at 8:00. Hear both games on KBear 102.3 and KBear 102.com.

In the girls’ high school basketball tournament tonight…
– In Class D at Baraga, Jeffers will face Chassell at 6:00. Ontonagon will meet Baraga at 7:30. Hear both games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– In Class C at Calumet, Hancock and Calumet will meet for the District title tonight at 7:00.
– In Class B, Houghton entertains Kingsford at 7:00. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY. Escanaba plays at Gladstone in the other Class B District semifinal.

– Lake Linden-Hubbell wrapped up an unbeaten season by outscoring Chassell 85-52.
– Houghton shut down Calumet 46-28.
– Hancock defeated L’Anse 47-32.
– Jeffers got past Baraga 50-42.
– Dollar Bay fell to Republic-Michigamme 83-48.
– Ontonagon lost to Watersmeet 65-49.
– Ewen-Trout Creek slipped past Wakefield-Marenisco 62-57.

GLIAC Hoops Tourney Opens
GLIAC LogoThe Michigan Tech women’s basketball team opens the GLIAC tournament tonight at home against Hillsdale. The Huskies are the top-seeded team, and will hold home court advantage as far as they go. Tip-off is at 5:30 at the SDC.

The Huskies’ men’s team also opens tournament play at home. They’ll face Walsh at 7:30.

The Northern Michigan women’s team begins tournament play at Grand Valley State. The Wildcats’ men’s team did not make the tournament.

Finlandia Lions New LogoThe Finlandia baseball team continued its Florida trip yesterday with two losses to Otterbein… 9-1 and 18-1. The Lions will face Ohio Northern University and Bluffton University today.

The Finlandia softball team opened its Florida trip with a 2-0 loss to St. Vincent College yesterday. The Lions take on the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Alvernia University today.

NHL – Red Wings Host Rangers
The Detroit Red Wings host the New York Rangers tonight. We’ll join the game in progress after Houghton basketball on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Visit Pelicans
The Detroit Pistons play at New Orleans tonight.

The Detroit Tigers opened their Grapefruit League schedule by pounding the Orioles 15-2 yesterday. Yoenis Cespedes hit a grand slam in his Detroit debut. Ian Kinsler and Aaron Westlake also homered. The Tigers face the Orioles again this afternoon. Anibal Sanchez will make his first spring start.

The Brewers face Wisconsin-Milwaukee in an exhibition game in Arizona this afternoon.
