MLB

Robbie Grossman’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Detroit Tigers a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the New York Yankees last night. Grossman’s shot off former Tiger Justin Wilson came after New York had scored once in the top of the 10th. Bryan Garcia, who gave up that run, wound up as the winning pitcher. Starter Casey Mize gave up five hits and one run over five innings, and struck out seven. Kyle Funkhouser, José Cisnero, Michael Fulmer and Gregory Soto each contributed a scoreless inning of relief.

The Tigers host the Yankees again this afternoon. Spencer Turnbull will start against Deivi Garcia. Coverage begins at 3:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit center fielder Victor Reyes was scratched before last night’s game with tightness in a pectoral muscle. He’ll be evaluated today.

Pitcher José Ureña may miss his next start. He left Wednesday’s game after feeling discomfort near his right wrist. It’s been diagnosed as a lower right forearm strain, and is not considered serious.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals were rained out in the nation’s capital last night. They’ll make that game up as part of a day-night doubleheader today. Freddy Peralta will start for Milwaukee in the first game, and Brett Anderson will open the nightcap. Washington has not confirmed its starters.

Our high school softball playoff coverage begins Tuesday afternoon at 3:40. Baraga will face Lake Linden-Hubbell in the first game, and L’Anse will take on Hancock in the second. Hear them both on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
