– Hancock took both of their games against Jeffers. In the first game, the Jets built a two-run lead, but the Bulldogs tied it in the fifth, and won it 5-4 when Travis Pietila’s single drove home Tanner givens in the sixth. In the nightcap, Carter Nettel struck out 7, hit two doubles, and scored once to lead Hancock to a 5-3 victory.

In high school softball Friday…
– Hancock pounded Lake Linden-Hubbell 12-2 and 11-1.
– Houghton v Ironwood – no report.

MLB
Miguel Cabrera homered twice, but it wasn’t enough, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 7-5 Friday. The Rays got off to a quick start, scoring three runs off Anibal Sanchez in the top of the first. Sanchez settled down, and turned in four inning of shutout ball. He left the game with two runners on base and no outs in the sixth inning, and was charged with two more runs when Kyle Ryan gave up a bases-loaded triple to Kevin Kiermaier.

The Tigers continue that home set against the Rays this afternoon. Michael Fulmer will start against former Tiger Drew Smyly. Hear the first pitch at 4:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Brewers couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to the New York Mets 3-2 Friday night. Both of Milwaukee’s runs scored in the first inning on a homer by Chris Carter. Wily Peralta gave up a run in the second inning, and two more as he was forced from the game in the sixth.

The Brewers continue that series against the Mets in New York this afternoon. Zach Davies will pitch against Jacob deGrom.

NHL
In the NHL playoffs last night, the Lightning edged the Penguins 4-3, to tie the Eastern Conference final at two wins per team. The Sharks and Blues play tonight – San Jose leads the Western Conference final two games to one.

NBA
In the NBA playoffs, the Cavaliers face the Raptors tonight. Cleveland leads the Eastern Conference final two games to none.

GUTS
The sixth annual Keweenaw Guts Day celebration will be held today. Activities begin at noon at Haralson Field on US-41 in Calumet. Enjoy free hot dogs, brats and soft drinks. The Top Gun Award will be given for this year’s fastest high school thrower. You’re invited to stop by, see some of our local players in action, and try Guts Frisbee for yourself.
