MLB
John Hicks’ squeeze bunt in the 12th inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday afternoon. Hicks’ perfect dribbler along the first base line brought home JaCoby Jones, who had opened the inning with a triple. Michael Fulmer gave up single runs in the first and second innings, but then pitched through the sixth for a quality start. Six Detroit relievers combined to allow just two hits and one walk over the final six innings, with Warwick Saupold eventually getting the win. James McCann homered for Detroit.

The Tigers begin a series in Kansas City this afternoon. Mike Fiers will pitch against Eric Skoglund. Pregame coverage will begin at 1:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Wade Miley gave up a run on three hits over six innings in his season debut, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 last night. Christian Yelich homered.

The Brewers have today off, and host the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow evening. Junior Guerra will pitch against Nick Kingham.

Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw left last night’s game in the second inning, after fouling a ball off his right foot. Ryan Braun exited in the sixth inning because of a calf problem. Both are expected to be ready to play tomorrow.

Before last night’s game, the Brewers called up outfielder Brett Phillips. Pitcher Brandon Woodruff was sent down to Colorado. To make room when Miley was activated from the disabled list, pitcher Oliver Drake was designated for assignment.
