Hockey Losses for Gremlins, ‘Dogs; Jets Tie – Sunday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school hockey Saturday…
• Hartland shut down Houghton 4-1.
• Jeffers and Manistique skated to a 1-1 tie. Kellen Koskinen scored the Jets’ only goal.
• Traverse City Central blanked Hancock 4-0.

The Copper Country Christian School boys basketball team defeated Maplewood 43-36 Saturday. Daba Holmes led the Warriors with 16 points. The CCCS girls team lost to Maplewood 59-27. Emelia Rebman scored 12 for the Warriors. 

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team blasted Northwood 98-75 Saturday. Owen White led the Huskies with 22 points.

The Tech women’s team got past Northwood 80-73. Ellie Mackay scored 25.

The Finlandia men’s basketball team lost 90-51 at North Central University Saturday. Rae’quan Funches led the Lions with 13 points.

The Finlandia women’s team fell 102-74 at North Central. Bailey Froberg and Katie Lundeen each scored 15 for the Lions.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team lost 3-1 at second-ranked Minnesota State Saturday night. Justin Misiak scored the Huskies’ only goal. Blake Pietila gave up two of the Mavericks’ goals. The third was an empty-netter with nine seconds remaining.

The NMU hockey team completed a weekend sweep of top-ranked Minnesota-Duluth with a 5-2 victory Saturday.

The Finlandia men’s hockey team lost 10-3 at Lake Forest Saturday. Sheldon Brett, Flynn Perry and Nate Walerowicz found the net for the Lions. Connor Duffy made 45 saves in the loss.

The Finlandia women’s team dropped a 5-1 decision at Lake Forest Saturday. Michaela Powers scored for the Lions, and Laney Pasemko made 54 saves.

GLHL

The Calumet Wolverines completed a sweep of their weekend series in Nevada with an 8-7 victory over the Reno Ice Raiders Saturday night.   

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings won their fifth straight game Saturday night, edging the New York Islanders 4-3 in overtime. Filip Hronek, Sam Gagner and Givani Smith scored during regulation, and Moritz Seider netted the game-winner in the extra period. Alex Nedeljkovic made 20 saves.

The Wings host the Nashville Predators Tuesday. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift. 

NBA

The Detroit Pistons are off until Monday, when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers have the weekend off.

The Detroit Lions entertain the Minnesota Vikings in a 1:00 game this afternoon. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
