College Basketball

Northern Michigan guard Max Weisbrod has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. Wiesbrod scored 43 points in the Wildcats’ recent wins over Purdue Northwest and Parkside.

NHL

The Red Wings’ third-period comeback fell short in a 5-4 loss to the Stars last night. Dallas took control with four goals in the second period. David Perron, Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Larkin and J.T. Compher scored for Detroit. Alex Lyon stopped 27 shots, and took the loss in net.

The Wings entertain the Flyers tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons host the Hornets tonight. Cade Cunningham is expected to rejoin the line-up tonight, after missing time with a strained knee. Point guard Monte Morris could also make his season debut this evening, after missing extended time with a couple of injuries. Coverage will start at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Bucks have fired head coach Adrian Griffin. With a record of 30-13, the move seems unusual, but many feel Milwaukee has underperformed, especially on defense. Griffin had replaced Mike Budenholzer at the start of the season. Veteran coach Doc Rivers, who has been working with the team as a consultant, could be in line to take over.

MLB

The Brewers have signed free agent first baseman Rhys Hopkins to a two-year contract. Hopkins will make $34 million, assuming he passes a physical. He missed last season rehabbing from a torn ACL. Hoskins hit 30 home runs for the Phillies in 2022, and batted .246.

Longtime Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun will be added to the Brewers’ Walk of Fame this summer.

The Tigers host the Yankees in their Grapefruit League opener a month from today.
