• Houghton shut down Iron Mountain 71-30.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 56-53.
• Calumet defeated Westwood 64-48. Elli Djerf led a balanced Copper Kings attack with 15 points.
• Chassell outscored Watersmeet 57-34. Trisha Pietila scored 12 for the Panthers, and Ally Etelamaki added 11.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell slipped past Republic-Michigamme 42-38.

In boys hoops last night…
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City stopped Houghton 43-34.
• Westwood shut down Hancock 49-21.
• Calumet downed Baraga 60-49.
• Jeffers dumped Ironwood 77-42. Christian Hocking passed the 1,000 career point mark, as he scored 26. Johnny Schutz added 18.
• Ewen-Trout Creek outpaced L’Anse 77-47. Jaden Borseth scored 26 for the Panthers.
• Chassell defeated Watersmeet 79-65.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Republic-Michigamme 57-40. Marcus Sutherland scored 26 for the Lakes.

In girls basketball tonight…
• Calumet travels to L’Anse.
• Hancock hosts Ironwood – that game begins around 7:30.

In boys basketball this evening…
• Houghton plays at Gwinn
• Lake Linden-Hubbell tips off at Hancock – the JV at 4:30, and the varsity around 6:00.
• Calumet hosts Negaunee.

In girls-boys doubleheaders…
• Baraga visits Chassell.
• Ontonagon plays at Ewen-Trout Creek.

In hockey tonight…
• Houghton skates at Negaunee. Coverage will begin around 5:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
• Hancock visits Kingsford.

In high school swimming today…
• Houghton competes against Ishpeming.

College Basketball

The seventh-seeded Northern Michigan University women’s hoops team opens the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament tonight at home against 10th-seed Davenport University.

The Michigan Tech women’s team is the top seed in the tournament, and has an opening-round bye.

The GLIAC men’s tournament begins Thursday.

Huskies guard Owen White has been named the GLIAC North Division Men’s Player of the Week for the third time this year. White totaled 41 points in Tech’s two victories over Wisconsin-Parkside last weekend.

The Finlandia women’s game scheduled for tonight against Northland University has been canceled.

College Hockey

Two Tech hockey players have been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Blake Pietila was named Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season. He stopped 88 shots in three victories. Colin Swoyer was selected as Defenseman of the Week for the fourth time this season.

MTU hockey is ranked 19th in this week’s USCHO.com poll.

Coast to Coast Conference

The Coast to Coast Athletic Conference has decided to proceed with its spring sports schedules and tournaments. Finlandia University softball competes in the C2C.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons’ game against the Toronto Raptors originally scheduled for tonight has been delayed. They’re hoping to play it tomorrow night. The Raptors have been dealing with COVID-19 issues.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Columbus Blue Jackets this evening. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost to the New York Yankees 5-4 in a seven-inning Grapefruit League game yesterday. Wilson Ramos homered for Detroit. Kyle Funkhouser pitched a scoreless inning to start the game.

The Tigers face the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon in a five-inning contest. Casey Mize is scheduled to make his first spring appearance.

The Milwaukee Brewers blasted the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1 yesterday. Manny Piña homered, and Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta each threw scoreless innings. Former Detroit Tiger Jordan Zimmermann gave up a run on three hits in his first inning of the spring.

The Brewers play the Oakland Athletics this afternoon.
