NHL – Red Wings Host Buffalo
The Red Wings host the Sabres tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY. Stephen Weiss could be back in the lineup tonight, after missing a half-dozen games with a shoulder injury. Goalie Jimmy Howard worked out with the team yesterday. He left Friday’s game with a groin injury. His status for tonight’s contest is uncertain.

NBA – Pistons Prepare for Pacers
The Pistons are off until Friday, when they host the Pacers.

Detroit gave up on high-priced free agent Josh Smith yesterday. Smith was released with more than two years remaining on the four-year deal he signed at the beginning of last season. The Pistons remain on the hook for most or all of his remaining salary – as much as 36-million dollars. With a record of 5-23, coach Stan Van Gundy says the team will focus on developing its young players.

In the NFL last night, the Bengals clinched a playoff berth with a 37-28 victory over the Broncos. Detroit Lions LionThe Lions will face the Packers on Sunday without center Dominic Raiola. Raiola is being punished for stomping on Bears defensive tackle Ego Ferguson’s ankle during Sunday’s game in Chicago. Raiola says it was an accident.
