Houghton County High School Sports to Resume Next Week

High School

In high school football tonight, L’Anse entertains Westwood.

Competition involving Houghton County high school teams should resume next week, now that face-to-face activities have been cleared by the Western U.P. Health Department. Schedules may be adjusted to try to make up some of the missed contests. We’ll update the daily schedules on our KeweenwReport.com Community Calendar as information becomes available.

MLB

In the American League Divisional Series yesterday…
• The Astros dumped the Athletics 11-6. Houston wins that series 3-1.
• The Yankees outscored the Rays 5-1. That series is tied 2-2, and will be decided tonight.

In the National League Divisional Series…
• The Braves blanked the Marlins 7-0. Atlanta wins that series 3-0.
• The Dodgers pounded the Padres 12-3. L-A takes that set 3-0.

The Braves and Dodgers will open the National League Championship Series Monday.

NBA

The NBA championship series continues tonight. The Lakers lead the Heat 3-1.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed Taro Hirose and Adam Erne. Hirose split time between Detroit and Grand Rapids last season. Erne played 56 games with the Wings, before an injury ended his season.

The NHL’s free agent signing window opens today at noon.

MTU

The Michigan Tech volleyball team has added a new player. Carissa Beyer is a defensive specialist who is transferring in from the University of Dayton. She’s from Appleton, Wisconsin.

NFL

Cairo Santos kicked two fourth quarter field goals, as the Bears edged the Buccaneers 20-19 in last night’s NFL contest. The game-winning kick came with a little more than a minute remaining.

The Lions and Packers are both off this weekend.

COVID-19 diagnoses have forced two NFL schedule changes this weekend. The Patriots’ game against the Broncos has been moved to Monday, and will start at 5:00. Quarterback Cam Newton is among the New England players who have been infected. The Titans’ match against the Bills will be played on Tuesday, assuming Tennessee doesn’t record any more COVID-19 cases.

The Bills were also scheduled to face the Chiefs in next week’s Thursday night game. That contest will be moved back to next Sunday, meaning there will probably be no Thursday game next week.
