MLB

Tyler Alexander earned his first major league win, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 yesterday. Alexander gave up a run on four hits over six innings. Jordy Mercer homered. Victor Reyes had a double and a triple.

The Tigers visit the Cleveland Indians tonight. The Tigers have not named a starter – Matthew Boyd was scheduled, but will miss the game because of a family emergency. Adam Plutko will pitch for the Indians. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Tigers fans are mourning the death of longtime coach Alex Grammas. Grammas served as Sparky Anderson’s third base coach in Detroit for 12 years. He also managed the Milwaukee Brewers for a couple of seasons. He was 93.

Travis Shaw homered, as the Milwaukee Brewers downed the San Diego Padres 5-1 last night. Zach Davies gave up a run over five innings.

The Brewers have won 10 of their last 11, and entertain the Padres again tonight. Brandon Woodruff will return from the disabled list to start against Chris Paddack.

The Cardinals and Cubs also won, so Saint Louis continues to lead the National League Central Division, with Chicago two games out, and Milwaukee three back, and one game out of the final wild card playoff berth.
