College Hockey

Michigan Tech forward Arvid Caderoth has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week the league. Caderoth had a goal and three assists, as the Huskies defeated Ferris State University, and swept two games at Alabama-Huntsville.

The Huskies will play at Ferris State this evening, to complete the series against the Bulldogs that was postponed earlier this season because of COVID-19 positives on the Tech squad.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Florida Panthers this evening. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

Derrick Rose is no longer a Detroit Piston. The veteran guard was traded to the New York Knicks yesterday. The deal is an additional sign that the Pistons plans to give more minutes to their younger players. In exchange, Detroit gets guard Dennis Smith Jr., and a second-round draft pick. Smith was a top-10 draft choice in 2017 after just one year in college, but has struggled to reach his potential.

The Pistons host the Brooklyn Nets tonight.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers have named a new defensive coordinator. Joe Barry spent the past few seasons as assistant head coach and linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Rams. The Packers also promoted Maurice Drayton to special teams coordinator.

MLB

Some of the rules changes made last year in Major League Baseball will continue this year. In anticipation of schedule changes forced by COVID-19, games in traditional doubleheaders will again be limited to seven innings. Teams will begin at-bats in extra innings with a runner at second base. The agreement reached yesterday between the owners and the players union includes more sophisticated COVID-19 testing. It does not include the use of the designated hitter in the National League, and it does not include expanded playoffs.

There may be fewer home runs this year. MLB has ordered that the balls be deadened a bit. The mandate comes after complaints that balls have been more lively than they should have been over the past several seasons.

Our Finlandia University hockey coverage continues Thursday, when the Lions entertain Concordia-Wisconsin. The pregame show will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
