Hancock Hockey LogoIn high school hockey last night… Dawson Kero earned the shutout as Hancock beat Kingsford 7-0. Casey Nicholas scored the game-winner early in the first period. Zach Ahola scored twice. The Bulldogs outshot the Flivvers 48-16,

Houghton-Hancock GBB 2015-02023In girls’ high school basketball last night…
– Houghton pulled out a 49-45 double-overtime victory over Hancock. The Gremlins held the Bulldogs to just three points in the first quarter, but Hancock came back to close the gap to three at halftime. The Bulldogs took the lead early in the second half with a 9-2 run, and it was a close game from there on out. Taylor Pertile scored a game-high 22 points for Hancock before leaving in the fourth quarter with an injury. Sydney Dillinger scored 12 for the Gremlins, including some critical free throws in the final minute to seal the win.
– Jeffers took over first place in the Copper Country Conference with a 41-37 overtime win over Lake Linden-Hubbell.
– The Calumet-Baraga game was canceled, and will not be made up.
– Chassell lost at Ontonagon 46-30.
– L’Anse fell at West Iron County 53-30.
– Dollar Bay shut down Republic-Michigamme 52-25.
– Ewen-Trout Creek lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 66-31.

On the girls’ schedule tonight, Dollar Bay plays a makeup game at Baraga. It’s a Pink-Out game, and last evening’s Parents’ Night ceremony will be held tonight.

In boys’ action tonight…
– Houghton visits Lake Linden-Hubbell in a battle between the WestPAC champion and the Copper Country Conference champion.
– Jeffers plays at Calumet.
– Hancock tips off at Dollar Bay.
– Chassell entertains Baraga.
– L’Anse journeys to Ontonagon.
– Ewen-Trout Creek hosts Watersmeet.

MTU – Richie Honored
Michigan Tech’s Jillian Richie has been named the GLIAC North Women’s Basketball Player of the week for the second time this season. Richie scored 35 points in the Huskies’ loss at Northwood last week… two shy of the school record.

The Michigan Tech hockey team has moved up to third in the nation in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Huskies have the most wins in the country. They’ll visit second-ranked Minnesota State this weekend in a battle for first place in the WCHA. See both polls here.

NHL – Red Wings Lose to Ducks
The Detroit Red Wings couldn’t hold a two-goal lead, and fell to the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 in a shootout last night. All of L-A’s goals came in the third period. Pavel Datsyuk scored twice for the Wings. The Wings skate at Los Angeles tonight. We’ll join the game after Pistons’ basketball on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Host Cavs
The Detroit Pistons entertain the Cavaliers tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
