Huskies Play for Mason Cup Tonight – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

In the Division Four girls basketball tournament last night, Ishpeming blasted into the state final with a 75-40 rout of Fowler. Jenna Maki scored 30 for the Hematites, despite resting for most of the fourth quarter. Her final point in last night’s game made her Ishpeming’s all-time career scoring leader. Ishpeming will face Kingston in the championship game tomorrow morning at 10:00. Kingston dispatched Frankfort 56-33. Both teams have records of 27-1. Hear the broadcast on KBear 102.3.

Niles Brandywine and Ypsilanti Arbor Prep will play in the Division Three championship game Saturday, after semifinal victories yesterday.

On today’s schedule, Negaunee will face Detroit Edison in a Division Two semifinal at 5:30. Grand Rapids West Catholic and Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard will meet in the other semifinal tonight. We’ll broadcast the Division Two title match tomorrow evening at 6:15 on KBear 102.3.

In the Division One semifinals today, Grand Blanc will play Bellville, and Rockford will take on West Bloomfield.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team will play at Bemidji State tonight in the championship game of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association tournament. The Beavers were seeded first, and bring a record of 20-15-2 into the game. The Huskies were seeded fourth, and carry a record of 18-14-6. Face-off is at 8:07 Eastern time.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers host the Calumet Wolverines tonight. Face-off is at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

The Wolverines will welcome the DePere Deacons tomorrow, with face-off at 6:00 at the Colosseum. The Pioneers will host the Deacons Sunday at 1:00 at the Dee.

NHL

Dylan Larkin scored twice in his return to the lineup last night, as the Red Wings pounded the Islanders 6-3. Andrew Copp also scored twice, and Patrick Kane and Christian Fischer each scored once. James Reimer stopped 33 shots. Larkin had been out since suffering a lower body injury in a game March 2nd.

The Wings visit the Predators tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 4:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons host the Celtics tonight, with coverage at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB Spring Training

The Mets scored seven runs in the eighth inning, and came from behind to beat the Tigers 10-5 yesterday. Parker Meadows, Colt Keith, Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter homered for Detroit. Starter Matt Manning gave up three runs over four innings.

The Tigers will play the Phillies today. Tarik Skubal will start.

Detroit sent six more players down to the minors yesterday. They include relievers Trey Wingenter and Andrew Vasquez, and infielder Keston Hiura.

The Brewers’ late comeback fell short, in a 7-6 loss to the Giants last evening. Robert Gasser pitched into the fourth, and allowed six runs on seven hits.

Half of the Brewers will play the Mariners today. Freddy Peralta will start. The other half will meet the Royals. Jakob Junis will start.

NFL

A day after authorities in Florida announced they were looking for Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton on a domestic violence charge, Detroit released him yesterday.
