Huskies Skate for Flood Relief Tonight – Friday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school hockey tonight, Hancock skates at Calumet in the opening game of the Copper Island Classic. The annual total-goals series will wrap up tomorrow night at the Colosseum. Our broadcast of tomorrow’s finale will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s hockey team will entertain Wisconsin-Eau Claire tonight at 7:15, and tomorrow at 4:00. We’ll broadcast tonight’s contest on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:55.

The women’s hockey team has the weekend off.

The Lions women’s basketball team will compete at the Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic at Wisconsin-LaCrosse, opening against the host team tomorrow evening, and facing Wisconsin-Platteville on Sunday.

The men’s basketball team is off this weekend.

MTU/NMU
The Michigan Tech hockey team entertains The University of Alaska tonight and tomorrow night. Faceoffs are at 7:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Tech players will skate in special Copper Country Strong jerseys tonight. A silent auction for those jerseys will be held during the game, with proceeds going to the Portage Health Foundation’s flood relief effort. Keweenaw Chevrolet, Pepsi of Houghton, and Tech Athletics have donated 200 tickets to various groups throughout the Copper Country who volunteered their time and services during the Father’s Day flood.

The Northern Michigan University hockey team opens the Cappo Cup series at Lake Superior State University tonight and tomorrow night.

The MTU men’s basketball team travels to Erie, Pennsylvania, for the Gary Miller Tournament at Gannon University. The Huskies will take on Alderson Broaddus University in the semifinals this evening, and will play in either the championship or consolation game tomorrow.

The MTU women’s team competes at the University of Southern Indiana Thanksgiving Classic in Evansville this weekend. The Huskies will open against Bellarmine University tomorrow afternoon, and will face the host team on Sunday.

The Northern Michigan University women’s team plays at the Radisson Classic at Concordia-Saint Paul this weekend. The Wildcats face the host team this afternoon, and the University of Jamestown tomorrow afternoon.

The NMU men’s team is off this weekend.

GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers and Calumet Wolverines will face off in a home and home series this weekend. Tomorrow’s game starts at 6:00 at Dee Stadium. Sunday’s contest begins at 5:00 at the Colosseum.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Washington Capitals this afternoon. Pregame coverage begins at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the Houston Rockets tonight.

NFL
The Chicago Bears scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and defeated the Detroit Lions 23-16 yesterday. The winning score came when Eddie Jackson intercepted a Matthew Stafford pass and returned it 41 yards. The Lions had a chance to tie the game in the closing minutes, but Chicago picked off another Stafford pass in the end zone.

In the late afternoon game, the Dallas Cowboys defeated Washington 31-23. In last night’s contest, the New Orleans Saints got past the Atlanta Falcons 31-17.

The Green Bay Packers visit the Minnesota Vikings in this week’s Sunday night game. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

Our high school basketball coverage will begin Tuesday, when the Lake Linden-Hubbell boys play at Hancock. The pregame show will start around 7:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
