NHL

The Red Wings added some additional offensive power in the early rounds of yesterday’s NHL Draft. In the second round, they took Max Plante, the son of former NHL player Derek Plante. He played left wing in the United States National Team Development Program, and is headed to Minnesota-Duluth this fall. Their third-round pick was center Ondrej Becher, who excelled for Prince George in the WHL this past season.

In the fourth round, the Wings grabbed goaltender Landon Miller, who played with the OHL Soo Greyhounds last season. They closed the draft by selecting defenseman John Whipple in the fifth round, wing Charlie Forslund in the sixth round, and wing Austin Baker and defenseman Fisher Scott in the seventh round. Baker is a Michigan native, who will play at Michigan State next fall.

Michigan Tech defenseman Chase Pietila was selected in the fourth round by the Penguins.
