High School

In hockey last night…
• Calumet blanked Jeffers 11-0. Caden Lehto had a hat trick for the Copper Kings. Dean Loukus had two goals and an assist. Jackson Rilei, Carson Kariniemi, Noah Jukuri and Paul Sturos each had a goal and two assists. Jack Helminen had to make just seven saves.

In hockey tonight…

In girls basketball last night…
• The Gwinn at Houghton game was canceled.
 • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City got past Jeffers 45-40.

In boys action…
• Jeffers defeated Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 75-50. Christian Hocking led the Jets with 23 points. Connor LeClaire had 15 for the Blue Bolts.

On the girls schedule tonight…
• Baraga tips off at Hancock. Our broadcast will begin around 7:00 on 97.7 The Wolf and TheWolf.com.
• L’Anse travels to Ontonagon.

In boys action tonight…
• Houghton journeys to Westwood.
• Hancock plays at Calumet.

College Basketball

The ninth-ranked Michigan Tech women’s basketball team begins play in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament today. The top-seeded Huskies will face eighth-seed Davenport University at noon eastern time.

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team is seeded third, and begins play tonight against sixth-seed Purdue Northwest. Tipoff is at 9:45 eastern time.

Both tournaments are being hosted by Purdue Northwest.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team shut down Bay College 71-41 last night.  Mariah Austin led a balanced Lions attack with 11 points, and Harlee Froberg added 10. Finlandia concludes its COVID-19-shortened season with a record of 5-1.

The Finlandia men’s team lost to Bay College 73-52. Joe Heininen led the Lions with 12 points, and Danny Zuchak added 11.

College Hockey

The Finlandia hockey team skates at Lawrence University tonight.

College Football

The Finlandia University football team has added another new recruit. As a lineman, Fabian Chartier helped the North Central Jets win a state title last season, and was named to the All-U.P. Eight-Player Dream Team.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Carolina Panthers this evening. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons outscored the Toronto Raptors 129-105 last night. Neither team was at full strength – Toronto was missing some players because of COVID-19 protocol, and Detroit was without Jerami Grant and Josh Jackson. The Pistons got 25 points from Wayne Ellington. Dennis Smith Jr. and Mason Plumlee both had triple-doubles – the first tine that Detroit teammates have done that in the same game since Ray Scott and Donnis Butcher turned the trick in 1964.

The Pistons will visit the New York Knicks this evening.

NFL

The Detroit Lions have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with wide receiver Tyrell Williams. Williams was recently released by the Las Vegas Raiders, after missing the 2020 season with a shoulder injury.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 yesterday. Daniel Norris pitched two scoreless innings. Buck Farmer gave up all four Philly runs in the third.

The Tigers face the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon. Spencer Turnbull will make his first appearance. Coverage begins at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres 8-5 yesterday.

The Brewers play the Cleveland Indians this afternoon.
